Pickering

  • Pickering GO Station is on GO Transit’s Lakeshore East line; the train to Union Station takes about 45 minutes, with departures roughly every 30 minutes. [1][2]
  • The Bay Ridges neighbourhood is about a 5-minute walk from the GO station, with a waterfront of cafes and shops and Beachfront Park’s boardwalk lookouts; Seaton is a large planned community taking shape in north Pickering. [3][4]
  • Frenchman’s Bay is a large coastal wetland designated an Environmentally Significant Area; the Waterfront Trail passes through Pickering and the 4.7 km Monarch Trail loops the bay to Millennium Square. [5][6]

Ajax

  • Ajax GO Station (100 Westney Road South) opened in 1988 and is the Ajax hub for Durham Region Transit, with local buses timed to GO train service. [7]
  • Ajax has roughly six kilometres of Lake Ontario waterfront parkland; the lakeside trail was renamed the William Parish Waterfront Trail in 2018, and Veterans Point Gardens at the foot of Harwood Avenue South is dedicated to HMS Ajax — the town and its streets honour the ship’s crews. [8][9]
  • Audley North is a fast-growing, family-oriented neighbourhood; the Audley Recreation Centre (2013) offers a gymnasium, a six-lane 25-metre indoor pool, a leisure pool, sports courts, a splash pad and a skate park. [10]

Whitby

  • Whitby GO Station is on the Lakeshore East line; a GO train to Union Station takes about an hour when making all stops. Whitby is also served by Highways 401 and 407, linked by Highway 412. [11][12]
  • Brooklin is a community within Whitby, north of the centre near the junction of Highways 12 and 7. [13]
  • Whitby’s waterfront includes Port Whitby and Iroquois Beach Park, a sandy Lake Ontario shoreline; the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail runs along the shore. [14][15]

Schools (region-wide)

  • Pickering, Ajax and Whitby are all served by the public Durham District School Board (DDSB) and the Catholic Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB). [16][17]

Hospitals & healthcare

  • Ajax Pickering Hospital — operated by Lakeridge Health; 580 Harwood Ave S, Ajax; full-service community hospital (emergency, surgery, maternal/child, mental health). [18]
  • Whitby is also served by Lakeridge Health sites, including Lakeridge Health Whitby and Lakeridge Health Oshawa (the regional acute hub). [18]
