About Belleville

  • Prince Edward County (“the County”), across the Norris Whitney (Bay) Bridge via Highway 62, is a VQA wine appellation (designated 2007) with roughly 40 wineries known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay — a nearby day trip, not part of the city. [29][30]
  • Sandbanks Provincial Park, in Prince Edward County about 30 minutes from Belleville, has one of Ontario’s best sand beaches and the world’s largest baymouth barrier dune formation — nearby, not in-city. [31]
  • CFB Trenton, a major regional employer, is in neighbouring Quinte West — adjacent to Belleville, not within it. [1]

Getting to Toronto by intercity bus

Beyond VIA Rail, several private intercity bus carriers connect Belleville with the Toronto area — a car-optional, budget-friendly option for commuters, Loyalist College students and weekend travellers. Stops, schedules and fares are set by each carrier and change often, so confirm directly with the carrier before you travel.

  • FlixBus picks up at 298 North Front Street (the Burger King parking lot on Front Street). [32]
  • Rider Express picks up at the Millennium Parkway bus stop, in front of St Louis Restaurant (beside the Walmart Supercentre at 274 Millennium Pkwy), and arrives in Toronto at the Union Station Bus Terminal, 81 Bay Street. [33][36]
  • Megabus picks up at the 254 Millennium Parkway transit bus stop (also beside the Walmart Supercentre at 274 Millennium Pkwy); this route runs to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ). [34][36]
  • Maple Bus picks up at the Petro-Canada & Car Wash, 311 Cannifton Road, with a Toronto-area stop at Scarborough Town Centre. [35]

Between them the carriers run several departures a day (approximate and subject to change — check current carrier timetables). Plan on roughly 2 to 2¾ hours by bus, depending on the carrier and traffic. By comparison, VIA Rail’s corridor trains make the trip in about 1½ hours — faster, while the bus is usually the cheaper option. [10]
